Telangana phone tapping case: BJP high command takes serious note

Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Telangana

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command has reportedly set its eyes on the phone tapping case in Telangana. The Congress Government in the State has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the alleged large-scale phone tapping by the then Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government.

“Phone tapping issue becomes a national-level issue. The BJP high command takes the issue very seriously,” a source in the party said.

The State unit of the party has demanded a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) into the matter. Its legal cell has already filed a case in the High Court, demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI.

The SIT summoned senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar to take his statement. He, however, sought more time, citing Parliament session.

Sanjay was among several politicians who alleged that their phones were tapped by the K Chandrasekhar Rao Government.

Sanjay Kumar informed the SIT that he would depose before the SIT on July 28.

“He is likely to submit crucial evidence,” the source said.
